There's more than one type of fuel!
There is a lot of talk in the media about alternative fuels like natural gas, biodiesel, and ethanol. What does this mean for the gas stations? Well the stations themselves are not going to go away, and at least for the near future, their main products will be gasoline and traditional diesel. But there are more and more vehicles, both private and commercial, that are either switching to an alternative fuel or becoming flex fuel (traditional or alternative fuels accepted).
Island Pump & Tank builds new, alternative fuel, fueling facilities for government, commercial, and private vendors. We also provide upgrades for existing facilities. If you want a biodiesel tank or an ethanol tank added and piped to your dispensers, we have the experience. If you want to add an electric vehicle charging station, we have the experience. If you want to add compressed natural gas (CNG) generation and CNG pump islands, we’ve done that before too. Just give us a call and one of our experts will walk you through the process.
How do I get money to install alternative fueling stations at my facility?
There are grants available from the federal government. Every year a new pool of money is allocated for alternative fuels, generally through the US Department of Energy (DOE). Grant applications are written for specific funds such as ARRA, CMAQ, or a whole host of others that come out every year. The success of the grant application depends on specific criteria set forth in each fund such as public accessibility, estimated carbon or fossil fuel offsets, and the location of the facility. It is important to use an experienced grant writer to maximize your chances for success.
