Quebec’s largest agri-food firm to install multi-fuel stations

Agri-food cooperative La Coop fédérée has been chosen by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MERN) to install multi-fuel stations in Quebec, according to a company release.

La Coop will participate in the government’s pilot project through its subsidiary Énergies Sonic, the largest energy products distributor in Quebec, and will join industry leaders namely Toyota Canada, Gaz Métro, Air Liquide, and Hydro-Québec in forming the steering committee.

The envisioned station, which is one of the commitments by the Government of Quebec within the framework of its 2030 Energy Policy, will offer different types of fuel such as gasoline, biofuels, natural gas, propane, electricity, and hydrogen.

These multi-fuel stations will be launched first in regions with high potential use and will be extended throughout Quebec by 2030.

After 2030, all service stations will be required to become multi-fuel stations.

“We need to meet the energy requirements of individuals and businesses wherever they are located. The government’s energy agreement is very ambitious. To get there within the 2030 timespan, we must count on the players who are already in the game for a major transformation of Quebec’s energy portrait. We will bring our full collaborative effort to the table to ensure the advancement and realization of this pilot,” said Gaétan Desroches, CEO for La Coop fédérée.
