Wawa to open its first CNG station

WAWA CNG STATION

Wawa is latest major fuel operator to invest in compressed natural gas (CNG) as it starts the construction of its first CNG station in Paulsboro, New Jersey.

The new station, built in cooperation with South Jersey Gas, is expected to open in February, reported local news source NJ.com.

In comments made to the mentioned source, Lori Bruce, public relations manager for Wawa said: "We are excited to provide our fuel customers with an alternative to the traditional liquid fuels, through the first Wawa location in our chain to provide CNG."

The use of natural gas as a fueling source for vehicles, either in its compressed or liquefied form, has been largely restricted to heavy duty vehicles in the United States. The clear benefits of using CNG or LNG for trucking companies are the stable, and relatively low, price of natural gas and the sustainability advantages of a less contaminating fuel.

In terms of private vehicles´ usage of natural gas it is starting to grow around the country, with states such as California and Colorado at the forefront of CNG in terms of vehicles and fueling stations.

Wawa, who owns more than 700 stores across the country, will wait to see the results of its first CNG station before adding any others to its large network.
