Mobile apps help save gas, avoid fraud

Mobile apps save gas and fraud

Mobile applications are now available to help consumers make the most out of their gas consumption and avoid being defrauded by dodgy gas stations.

In a 6abc.com report, Dave Skaien from American Automobile Association (AAA) recommended an app and plug-in adapter called ‘Automatic’, which can help motorists save up to 30%.

‘Automatic’ measures the time one spends in driving, tracks driving techniques, and sends alerts if the driver is accelerating too fast or braking too hard leading to higher fuel consumption.

Skaien also recommended ‘Waze’ and ‘Google Maps’, which can tell traffic velocity in different places, thereby, helping motorists avoid traffic congestions.

To save more on gas, a Gasbuddy application displays the nearest gas stations that dispense the cheapest gas.

There’s also a mobile app created in Mexico that can tell if the gas pump is dispensing the right amount of fuel. The app called ‘Zenzzer’ comes with a device to be installed in the gas tank and can communicate with a smartphone so the user can verify the amount of fuel dispensed. Users can also indicate, through the application, gasoline stations that are short-changing their customers, reported Mexican daily Excélsior.

Another application from Mexico called ‘Litros Completos’ helps consumers avoid dubious gas stations. The app displays a map that shows reliable stations and those that were sanctioned by Mexico’s Office of the Federal Prosecutor for the Consumer (PROFECO) for gas theft, electrical failures, gas fraud, gas leak and other irregularities, according to sipse.com.
