Installing tanks requires a specialty contractor. Tank contractors must have expertise in three trades - plumbing, electric, and heavy equipment operation. Furthermore, the contractor must have significant experience in each of these trades as they specifically apply to tank installation and removal.

Is choosing the right contractor really that critical?

Yes. Installing a tank that will hold petroleum or hazardous chemicals presents safety risks as well as huge financial liability if the tank were to fail. A simple mistake like over-tightening or under-tightening a connection or an oversight like installing a tank on top of a small rock can cause the tank to fail. If the contents are released to the soil or groundwater it is very common for the cleanup to cost well over $100,000. The owner of the tank is financially and legally responsible.
