Chargepoint bags UN Climate Change award

ChargePoint, the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging network, is one of the 16 companies around the world to receive the United Nations’ (UN) Momentum for Change climate change award, reported the Globe Newswire.

The prestigious award recognizes Chargepoint for transforming the transportation industry by providing easier access to electric vehicle (EV) chargers. The company operates more than 25,000 charging spots around the world and has teamed up with BMW and Volkswagen to create fast charging corridors along the most heavily populated and highly trafficked regions on the east and west coasts of the United States.

These express charging corridors, according to UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, are not only beneficial to EV drivers, but can also promote widespread EV adoption. As more EVs replace traditional vehicles, greenhouse gas emissions from transportation will continue to fall.

The Momentum for Change Award is an initiative spearheaded by the UN Climate Change Secretariat to recognize innovative and transformative solutions that address both climate change and wider economic, social and environmental challenges. Awarding will be held at the annual Conference of the Parties (COP21) in Paris, France, in December 2015.
